I remember one day my boyfriend and I were at the mall and I was shopping around and everything I put on didnt look right on me. It was just too tight or didnt fit my curves. We decided to try another store. As we were walking we started a conversation about the pictures of thin models in store windows. I told him if I looked like them I could fit into the clothes I had tried on prior. We then came to a window of a girl who looked an average weight. Not underweight, not overweight, just somewhere in the middle. She had a similar body shape to mine. He said there, I like the way she looks, she looks like you. We look up to see what store we were standing in front of and it was a “PLUS SIZE” store.
I am a body posi person and i NEVER see fat or skinny as an insult or compliment. They are adjectives. However I questioned why a girl who looked like what a doctor would consider an ideal BMI for her height, was labeled as PLUS SIZE?
Why is everyone either viewed as TOO FAT or TOO SKINNY? the portrayal of what was considered plus size really haunted me. The size the model was could have fit in a (u.s) size 7 or 9 jean. WHICH IS NOT PLUS SIZE.
It just disturbed me so much that even though we think hey they make plus size clothes, BODY POSI! YEAH! THEY ARE STILL PORTRAYING A MODEL THAT IS NOT TRUE TO THE MAJORITY OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC.
STOP PHOTOSHOPPING GIRLS
ALL BODIES ARE BEAUTIFUL
SKINNY, FAT, MEDIUM.
There needs to be representation in the media of all of them, and ACCURATELY.
